What data we collect
When you register an account, we collect:
- Email address (for login and account management)
- Password (stored as a one-way hash — we cannot read it)
- Name (optional — for contributor attribution)
- Attribution preference (real name, pseudonym, or anonymous)
Contributor recordings
If you contribute audio recordings:
- Recordings are stored as audio files on our server
- Each recording has playback consent — you must consent to public playback for a recording to be approved and made public
- Recordings are private until reviewed and approved
- You can request removal of your voice recording at any time
- Approved recordings are playable by anyone visiting the site
How data is used
- Account data is used for login, role management, and contributor attribution
- Submissions are reviewed by native speakers and, once approved, published for public communication
- Anonymous feedback ("Did this work?") helps us understand phrase effectiveness
- Anonymous phrase requests help us identify missing expressions
- Anonymous reports help us identify problematic content
Cookies and session data
- Session cookies keep you logged in (secure, HttpOnly)
- A region cookie remembers your last visited region
- CSRF tokens protect forms from cross-site attacks
- An anonymous session key distinguishes anonymous feedback submissions
Data storage
- All data is stored on our Hostinger-hosted server (MariaDB database + filesystem)
- Audio files are stored in public (approved) and private (pending/rejected) directories
- We do not sell or share personal data with third parties
- We do not use data for AI training — AI-training consent is separate and not used in V1
Your rights
- You can request your account data at any time
- You can withdraw a pending submission (deletes your submission and audio)
- You can request removal of your voice recording from an approved phrase
- You can request account deletion (contact the site administrator)
